Meet Our Staff
Mr. Jason Warnix is a native of Arab, AL where he graduated with an advanced diploma from Arab High School in 1995. Mr. Warnix received his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2001 from the University of North Alabama where he was a member and section leader in various performance groups including the UNA “Pride of Dixie” Marching Band, the UNA Concert Band, and the UNA Percussion Ensemble. While in Florence, performances with the Shoals Symphony and other local professional groups were common to Mr. Warnix. His talents extended into the world of Drum Corps International in 1997 as a member of the Front Ensemble of Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps. From 2001 to 2004, he was the band director at Prattville Jr. High School where he averaged 400+ students under his direction per year. In 2004, Mr. Warnix became the Assistant Band Director at Prattville High School. While at Prattville, Mr. Warnix directed the Prattville High School percussion sections and the Prattville High School Symphonic Band.
Mr. Warnix has been the Director of Bands at Wetumpka High School since July of 2008 and has guided the band to consistent Superior Ratings and numerous Best in Class Awards at numerous marching festivals and competitions. Under Mr. Warnix’s direction, the WHS band participated in the Alabama Bandmasters Association’s (ABA) District Concert Assessment in February 2009 for the first time in over 12 years and scored Straight Superior Ratings. The band has consistently scored Superior ratings at the ABA Music Performance Assessment since 2014. The Wetumpka High School band has placed students consistently into the Alabama All-State Bands each year since 2009. The band has performed in the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta, GA; a featured parade performance in Six Flags in Atlanta, GA; in the Dynamic Music Festival in Orlando, FL; a feature concert at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and was selected to perform for the World in a Magic Kingdom March at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
Mr. Warnix currently serves as the Vice Chair for ABA District VI, and he is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the Alabama Bandmasters Association, the Alabama Educators’ Association, and the National Education Association.
Presently, Mr. Warnix and his family currently attend church at Bethsalem Baptist Church in Billingsley, Alabama where he is the Worship Leader/Choir Director. He and his wife, Mandy, have three daughters—Jordan, Kara, and Erin.
Mrs. Diana Frazier is the Band Director at Wetumpka Middle School in Wetumpka, AL. She also assists Mr. Warnix with “The Pride of the Tribe Marching Band” at Wetumpka High School. Mrs. Frazier is a native of New Brockton, AL where she graduated with honors from New Brockton High School in 1994. She received her B.S. in Music Education in 1998 from Troy University where she was a member and section leader in various performing ensembles including “The Sound of the South” marching band, concert band, the Collegiate Singers, the pit orchestra, and the principle bassoonist in the Troy Symphony Band. She received her Masters degree in Music Education from Auburn University in 2009. Mrs. Frazier is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Epsilon Iota, Alabama Bandmasters Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Alabama Educators Association, and the National Educators Association.
Mrs. Frazier began her teaching career in Zephyrhills, Florida where she taught elementary music at Chester Taylor Elementary School from 1998-2000. She then moved to Montgomery, Alabama where she became the band director at Capitol Heights Jr. High School from 2000-2003. She also served as the band director at Georgia Washington Jr. High from 2003-2010.
Under Mrs. Frazier’s leadership, the band program at WMS has grown from 16 members to over 100 members in just a few short years. The Wetumpka Middle School band has received Superior Ratings at the state music festival. Many of her students have been selected to participate in various honor bands including the All-State Band.
Mrs. Frazier and her husband, Preston, have two children, Sarah and Alex.
Karyn Causey Peterson is the Majorette Instructor for the Wetumpka High School “Pride of the Tribe” Marching Band. Karyn graduated from Wetumpka High School in 2012 where she was a member of the Wetumpka High School Band, and then attended Troy University in Montgomery from 2012 to 2013. She then attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, where she was a Majorette for the Huntingdon College Scarlet and Grey Marching Band. After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Collaborative Special Education, Karyn taught 1st Grade for a year and then 3rd Grade at Rucker Boulevard Elementary School in Enterprise, AL, from 2017 to 2019. Mrs. Peterson currently teaches 3rd Grade at Airport Road Intermediate School in the Elmore County Public School System.
